ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 04: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag today conducted a specialized workshop on Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) for patients with abnormal heart rhythms, marking a significant step forward in advanced cardiac care in South Kashmir.

The workshop was led by Head of Cardiology, Dr. Syed Maqbool, and conducted with the expertise of senior cardiologists Dr. Shamim Iqbal and Dr. Showkat Shah, along with junior cardiologist Dr. Shahood Kakroo, who actively contributed to the program.

A total of 20 RFA procedures were performed during the workshop.
Explaining the procedure in detail, the concerned cardiologists jointly highlighted that RFA is a minimally invasive and highly effective treatment for cardiac arrhythmias. The technique uses controlled radiofrequency energy to target and eliminate faulty electrical pathways in the heart, thereby restoring normal rhythm.

“For many patients, this procedure provides not only a permanent cure but is also lifesaving, sparing them the need for lifelong medication,” the cardiologists emphasized.

Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof. Rukhsana Najeeb hailed the workshop as a landmark in the institution’s journey.

She said, “This is a milestone in the cardiac care landscape of South Kashmir. With the successful conduct of advanced procedures like RFA, GMC Anantnag is emerging as a trusted center for high-end cardiac treatment within the Valley, ensuring our people need not travel outside for such lifesaving interventions.”

Radiofrequency Ablation is internationally recognized as a safe and reliable intervention for rhythm disorders and is now being increasingly adopted as the standard of care for drug-resistant or recurrent arrhythmias.
