KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 26: The NSS Unit of Government Degree College Kishtwar today organized the District Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament in the Auditorium of the College, under the leadership of the College Principal Prof. Basharat Iqbal.
The theme of the event was “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.”
The programme was graced by the Deputy Commissioner, Pankaj Kumar Sharma as the chief guest.
In his address, the DC appreciated the enthusiasm, confidence and democratic spirit displayed by the participants. He emphasized that Youth Parliament platforms strengthen constitutional values, promote critical thinking and prepare young minds to take up leadership roles in society.
Referring to the theme, he highlighted the importance of understanding historical events like the Emergency to safeguard democratic institutions and uphold the principles of justice, liberty and equality. He congratulated the organizers for successfully hosting the district-level competition and encouraged students to continue participating in such nation-building initiatives.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Esarul Ayub, who highlighted the significance of the Youth Parliament in fostering informed debate and responsible citizenship among the youth.
He emphasized that reflecting on the lessons of the Emergency helps strengthen democratic awareness and accountability among young citizens.
The district-level competition witnessed the participation of more than 20 students from GDC Kishtwar, GDC Padder and GDC Chatroo.
The performances were evaluated by the Jury members including Tariq Tamkeen, Associate Professor, GDC Bhaderwah and Yaseen Sirwal, Senior Assistant Professor, GDC Bhaderwah.
After careful evaluation, the best five participants were selected to represent the district at the state-level round.
Several officers from the District Administration and faculty members of the college also attended the event, adding grace and significance to the occasion.
The event was gracefully anchored by Prof. Tabassum Saleem.
The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sheikh Mohd Usman, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, jury members, participants, district administration and the organizing team for their valuable support and contribution.
