RAJOURI, MARCH 14: Registrar Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Abhishek Sharma on Saturday reviewed the progress of the 50 kW Solar Power Plant being installed at the university, which forms part of the proposed 1 Megawatt solar project planned for the campus.

During a visit to the campus, the Register was informed that nearly 85 percent of the work on the 1 Megawatt Solar Power Plant has been completed and the project is expected to be completed by 15th April, 2026.

The Registrar highlighted the significance of renewable energy and stated that the solar installation will help reduce dependence on conventional power sources, lower electricity costs and promote clean and sustainable energy within the campus.

He said that the project will contribute to energy conservation, reduction of carbon emissions and long-term financial savings for the university. It was also informed that the project is expected to save electricity costs of nearly ₹8 lakh per month, amounting to approximately ₹96 lakh annually.

Once the full 1 Megawatt solar capacity is installed, it will significantly enhance the availability of green energy on the campus.

The initiative reflects the commitment towards promoting renewable energy and sustainable development and encouraging the use of eco-friendly power solutions in institutions.

Executive Engineer, Electric Division Rajouri, and other officers also accompanied the Registrar during the visit.
