Secular Fabric of India At Risk…

What is happening in the country these days is not only unfortunate but scary and dangerous too. What used to be just said in rallies here and there to please the vote banks, has now reached the stage of action where the people from the minority community, particularly, Muslims, are being targeted ruthlessly while making their worship, their food, or their dressing a daily target. While so much was already being said by many people who wanted Muslims to be side-lined, the action on the ground so far remained missing. However, the situation has quite changed now as Muslims are being targeted for everything out there, and they are just staying put because the perpetrators have got the backing of those in power.

It all started with the Hijab row in Karnataka, where scuttling the freedom of religion, identity and dressing of people. Then there was the issue of Halal meat or Halal Products  which was aimed at starting a campaign to financially affect the lower-middle-class Muslims, and these days, the issue is revolving around Namaz as well as Azan on the loudspeakers. The environment for the Muslims living in the country has been vitiated while there have been several places where the Muslims had to flee or were told to vacate for the very own reasons of the majority community.

Amid all this, ‘The Kashmir Files’ movie added fuel to the fire because the communal tension was already underlying in the Indian society and the movie, which now has the patronage of the Government, shows the majority community of Kashmir in a bad light vis-à-vis what Kashmiri Pandits had to face way back in the 90s and made it quite difficult for the people of the minority community across the country. With that, came the onslaught and there does not seem to be any end to it as it could lead to anything with its march continuing. What happened in Delhi was also a part of the entire campaign which started in Haryana after people did not allow Muslims to offer namaz in open.

The gory picture which these days the country presents is unbecoming of a secular country—for which once India was being praised and lauded. The same picture is not only in danger today but has suffered a great deal of damaged. The rising intolerance to tolerate a man of a different faith who eats differently, dresses differently, and has a varied set of beliefs, is a black hole, that if persisted, is going to annihilate India once and for all. Those who have started such a campaign and are creating communal divide across the country, need to understand that whatever they are intending, is totally against the constitution as well as the hard-earned secular fabric of India. Making people from minorities feel insecure is tantamount to trampling the country’s constitution.
