SHOPIAN, APRIL 25: In a compelling demonstration of civic consciousness under the Information, Education & Communication pillar of the 100-Day Nasha Mukht Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, the district-wide Book Donation Drive witnessed remarkable public participation across Shopian today, elevating the anti-drug movement into a dignified crusade for knowledge and enlightenment.

Designated collection centres at the Municipal Council Office Shopian and SDM Office Zainapora became hubs of constructive engagement, as citizens, officials, and civil society members converged to contribute books and reaffirm their commitment to a drug-free society founded on learning and awareness.

At MC Office Shopian, nearly 100 books were voluntarily contributed by employees, civil society representatives, and volunteers.

Presiding over the event, SDM Zainapora, Bilal Ahmad, commended the extraordinary public fervour and articulated a compelling vision for social transformation through education. He exhorted citizens to sustain this noble momentum by donating books at collection centres operational across all Tehsil and Block offices in the district.

He implored every stratum of society to fortify this initiative, so that Shopian may emerge as a paragon of a knowledge-driven, progressive, and drug-free district.

The Book Donation Drive stands as a flagship district-specific IEC initiative, conceptualized and led by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, under the Nasha Mukht J&K Abhiyaan. Cumulatively, over 560 books have been contributed by individuals representing all walks of life, reflecting an unprecedented convergence of social will.

The repository created shall be systematically disseminated to deserving individuals and endowed to school, panchayat, and public libraries across the district, thereby nurturing a vibrant reading culture and ensuring equitable access to knowledge, especially for the underprivileged youth.

The initiative aspires to channelize collective public energy into affirmative engagement, foster societal awareness through the transformative power of literature, and consolidate an unyielding social compact against the scourge of drug abuse.
