SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 15: Social Welfare Department (SWD), Shopian, in collaboration with the Department of Health, Shopian, organized a Free Geriatric Health and Screening Camp at Panchayat Ghar, Gatipora, Keller, aimed at providing accessible and specialized healthcare services to senior citizens at their doorstep.
The camp was organized under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) – National Action Plan for Senior Citizens, with a focus on promoting healthy ageing and improving the overall well-being and quality of life of elderly persons, particularly those residing in remote and rural areas.
During the camp, senior citizens underwent comprehensive health screening, including assessment for Dementia and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes.
Medical teams from the Health Department provided expert consultations, conducted examinations and offered guidance on the management of age-related and chronic health conditions.
Essential medicines and geriatric health supplements were also distributed free of cost among the beneficiaries.
Officials from the Social Welfare Department sensitized participants about healthy ageing practices and various welfare initiatives and entitlements available to senior citizens under AVYAY and other government programmes.
The camp witnessed active participation from senior citizens, women and residents of Gatipora and adjoining areas. The local community appreciated the efforts of the Social Welfare and Health Departments for taking essential healthcare services closer to the elderly population and facilitating timely screening, consultation and access to medicines.
