Azad finally Congress ‘Mukt’

Azad is a political personality who has come from the grassroots; he has got his identity in Delhi, across India as well as in J&K where he has served as Chief Minister.

In the last few days, there have been remarks, and comments made by the senior Congress leaders, especially after Ghulam Nabi Azad took an exit from the party, which depict the mindset at work within the party, which has now, perhaps, ignited its self-destruction mode. The exit of Azad from the party is a big blow even though the leaders within the crumbling party suggest otherwise, but the reality is that, with Azad jumping to the other side, the same has brought out a wide range of political incapabilities of the leaders within the party who clearly do not have the spine of calling spade a spade, unlike Azad.

Mr. Azad said in an interview with a news channel “maaien aisee hee hoti hai”(All mothers are like that) when he was asked why Rahul continues to see an upward trend in the party rank—the same delineates and brings to the fore, the “nepotism” within the party which is at highest levels and the absence of strong democratic principles, which a party should possess.

Then comes the comment in which former union minister of UPA Mr. Jairam Ramesh, while reacting to Azad’s exit, said that his (Azad’s) DNA has been ‘Modi-fied,’ apparently hitting out at the ‘weakness’ of Ghulam Nabi Azad and having been influenced by Modi because people had the emotional scene of PM Modi and Azad in the Parliament fresh in their memory lanes; they linked the exit to it, so did Jairam Ramesh as well as the Congress party because such a comment, when aimed at a taller personality such as Azad, cannot be taken as an individual opinion, rather, the same carried the weight of the entire party behind it.

Azad is a political personality who has come from the grassroots; he has got his identity in Delhi, across India as well as in J&K where he has served as Chief Minister. He is someone who is held in high esteem by the people on this side as well as those on the other side. With a grand career, Azad knows the basic principles, and foundations of politics and has been seen always going along those lines, but the way, the Congress leaders, in Delhi as well as J&K, have reacted to his exit, the same paints a dirty picture of scheme things within the Congress party because the resignation letter of Azad says it all: what galore within is nepotism, lack of will and political narrow-mindedness.

At the same time, Azad, in a way, represented Muslims of the country in Congress, but now that his exit is being painted differently, the same has added more scars on the Muslim identity and patriotism within the Indian National Congress. It might not be an exaggeration to say that the structure, which once embraced Muslims within the party, has now developed fissures. It was the same element that PM Modi held on when both Azad and he turned emotional, because, on the face of it, he was praising Azad for his contribution, but while doing so, he was aiming somewhere else too.
