3 drug peddlers arrested: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara & Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Handwara, a police party of Police Station Vilgam during naka checking at Dahama crossing intercepted a suspicious person who attempted to flee but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

During the search, around 30 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mohd Afzal Shah son of Abdul Gafar resident of Gund Momin, police said.

Similarly, a police party of Police Station Kralgund during patrolling at Reshipora Wuder apprehended one person who had attempted to avoid the police party in a suspicious manner. During search, around 40 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Mir son of Gh Hassan Mir resident of Zathan Rafiabad, police said.

In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO PS Chandoosa under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri at a checkpoint established at Bandi Payeen Baramulla intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 56 Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus tablets were recovered from his possession, police said.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations, police said, adding that accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
