The event took place at the Conference Hall under the close and personal supervision of Account Officer DC Office Kishtwar Imran Ahmed Kichloo (JKAS) and it witnessed the active participation of approximately 250 students and other concerned members including Members of NGOs,Aapdha mitras and others.

The programme was graced by the presence of distinguished resource persons, among whom Ms. Bushra Nazir delivered a profound discourse on various disaster mitigation measures, with a special focus on earthquakes and fire incidents. Ms. Bushra Nazir emphasized the crucial need for the establishment of Local Self-Help Groups to facilitate a swift response system during disasters.

Adding to the valuable insights, Mr. Naveed Ahmed, another resource person, shed light on the significant role played by Dr. Sareer Ahmed, a scholar, during the catastrophic flood disaster in Kashmir in 2014. Mr. Naveed also provided in-depth knowledge on a range of natural calamities, including earthquakes, cloud bursts, and more.

He also delivered an informative lecture on the causes and effects of earthquakes, highlighting that Kishtwar district falls under seismic zone 5, with its peripheral areas serving as epicenters.

Furthermore, Mr. Naveed Ahmed shared vital information about preventive measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. This encompassed the importance of buildings meeting the approval standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the placement of disaster management kits in every household, and the utilization of the mobile app “Bhookamp” which provides real time earthquake information to users developed by NCS , Ministry of Earth Sciences GOI.

To facilitate a practical understanding, a live demonstration of disaster management kits and their components, including life jackets, tubes, helmets, goggles, gloves, boots, blankets, buckets, CO2 cylinders, GPS wireless sets, compasses, and tool kits, was conducted for the enthusiastic participants.

In an effort to assess the effectiveness of the programme, valuable feedback was gathered from the students through a prescribed format distributed to them.

This initiative reflects DCI Multi Skill Pvt Ltd and the District Administration Kishtwar’s commitment to fostering a resilient community capable of addressing and mitigating the challenges posed by natural disasters. Such collaborative efforts serve as a cornerstone in creating a safer and more prepared Kishtwar.
