Handwara, Oct 25: In an international journey an MSc student who started a trout fish farm around five years back is now touching the heights of success with a 12-member family solely relying on it.

Mohd Ashraf War is an MSc pass out belonging to the Far-flung area of Mawar TCP in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. He started his entrepreneurial journey about five years back to flourish in his idea.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ashraf said that since his college days he aimed to excel in this sector given his studies also focused on trout fish and their benefits besides it as a source of income as well.

He said that after trying to realize his dream, he faced an immense amount of financial constraints but it was the Fisheries department later that helped.

His journey, Ashraf said, began in 2018 and since then everything has been going well at the trout fish farm. “There are challenges due to natural circumstances, but overall everything is going as planned including the production.”

Ashraf also said that he has never chased government jobs, rather running a trout fish farm is a passion-driven thing that keeps pushing to do better. “I’ve been completely connected to this trout fish farm for years now and the passion for it won’t ever diminish.”

“Undoubtedly this is our sole financial support for years now. We can generate handsome income from it and all of us are happy about it. We are also working on enhancing our market space and demand. We approach different marketplaces aimed to increase the demand at ground level,” he said.

About the trout fish, Ashraf said that it has the highest nutritional value compared to others. “Trout fish is one of the most valued and loved in Kashmir valley. This species of trout doesn’t have more bones which continue to cause worries. There remains no scare.”

He further said that the annual production continues to vary from time to time but so far everything has been very satisfactory.

Ashraf added that youth need to take up entrepreneurial journeys and stay after from drugs and other questionable things that are harmful to life—(KNO)
