Srinagar, May 21 : The residents of Maloora area of Srinagar outskirts on Tuesday said that they were grappling with a severe electricity crisis for the last few days, causing inconvenience and financial losses to shopkeepers in the area.

Several local residents told the news agency that their locality has been without electricity for the past three days due to a damaged transformer.

“Since three days there is no electricity in our locality, our electronic gadgets are down as they don’t have any charge left. Though the transformer has been lifted, it often gets damaged,” said Nazir Ahmad, a local resident.

While shopkeepers in the area said that they particularly are hard-hit, and are facing losses due to the lack of refrigeration for necessary stock.

“To keep the ice cream stock frozen, I have hired a generator and for 2 hours that consumes 2 liters of petrol and that is a financial burden for me despite paying the high power bill,” said a shopkeeper.

The local traders in the area said that the prolonged power outage is affecting many businesses, especially those requiring a constant power supply.

Meanwhile, concerned AEE told KNO that they have already lifted the transformer from the area for necessary repair work and that they will restore the electricity in the locality by tomorrow.

The locals urged authorities to address the electricity issue immediately to mitigate further inconvenience and financial losses
