JAMMU, OCTOBER 02: In a significant tribute to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Government College for Women, Parade, organized a comprehensive two-week campaign under the Swachhta Hi Seva initiative from September 17 to October 2, 2024.

This series of activities marked the 155th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and community service.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of the college spearheaded this initiative, coordinating a variety of impactful activities that engaged students and faculty alike. Participants undertook a Swachhta pledge, committed to cleanliness, and organized multiple cleanliness drives across the campus and surrounding areas. In addition to these efforts, the campaign included plantation drives to enhance green cover and contribute to environmental sustainability.

Creative outlets were also provided through essay writing competitions and a walkathon, aimed at raising awareness about cleanliness and health. The diverse range of activities not only highlighted the importance of hygiene but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and collective responsibility among the students.

A notable feature of the campaign was the “Seva Se Sikhein” experiential learning program, conducted in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Jammu. NSS volunteers participated in this initiative, assisting in various activities at the OPD and Emergency departments of Government Medical College Jammu.

The activities culminated on Gandhi Jayanti, where Principal Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo addressed the gathering, praising the volunteers and program officers for their dedication and hard work. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives in instilling a culture of cleanliness and social responsibility, aligning with Gandhiji’s vision for a better society.

To conclude the campaign, NSS volunteers participated in an hour of shram dhan (voluntary labor) at the college campus, symbolizing their commitment to the principles of selfless service and community development.
