Divisive politics galore

‘80-20’ comment made by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is too early to declare as the state is set to go for polls soon. More so, the comment has not been made in a good light, thus, lacking political maturity as well as will, aimed at creating divisions.
Yogi, said that his party will fight the upcoming elections on the planks of nationalism, good governance, and development and in that direction, 80% of the people will go with the BJP as he said that the party has worked on all these parameters, while as the rest will take a different path.
The remarks made are not only immature but will also have greater ramifications on the communal harmony in the state which is house to over 20 per cent of Muslims. On this, the opposition has also reacted sharply, stating that the CM is hopping onto the communal lines to secure victory in elections.
Like always, the election turf in Uttar Pradesh, particularly, is going to remain hot even as fighting elections in the name of religion, identity, which has been a norm, is again taking a centre stage.
Unfortunately, the conduct has been the same from both sides and both sides have been playing divisive politics and have been exposing the affected section of the society to more vulnerability—which the Election Commission should take note of.
As of now, the election mode in Uttar Pradesh is being run more from the frame of reference of polarization: presenting the majority as nationalist, patriots and the minority as those who do not wish for the development, those who are more inclined towards the other side, creating division. It is a trend that needs to stop, now.
