RAJOURI, NOVEMBER 13: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri Abhishek Sharma on Wednesday chaired the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) district level committee meeting here in the Conference Hall of the DC office to discuss and review enforcement measures against drug trafficking and addiction in the district. The meeting focused on coordinated action across enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation strategies to curb the drug menace in the district.

DC Sharma emphasized several critical measures to reinforce the district’s anti-drug framework. He directed enforcement departments to ensure installation of CCTV cameras on all medical shops and computerized billing to improve transparency and discourage illegal drug sales.

The police were asked to intensify operations, including raids and crackdowns on drug-related activities, ensuring a proactive approach in tracking down offenders.

The Chief Education Officer was instructed to implement awareness programs in schools and colleges to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free culture among the youth.

The State Tax Officer and the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) were tasked with monitoring all public transport modes, courier services, and other transportation channels to prevent drug trafficking. Regular checks will ensure that these services are not misused for illegal drug distribution.

The DC stressed the need for swift action in seizing the properties of known drug peddlers, with the Additional Commissioner of Revenue (ACR) ensuring that these seizures are accurately recorded in revenue entries to reinforce legal accountability.

Transport and Traffic Departments were instructed to establish random checkpoints (“nakas”) across the district to deter the movement of drug traffickers and enhance surveillance on highways and major routes.

Recognizing the importance of post-rehabilitation support, DC Sharma highlighted the need for follow-up surveys of individuals released from drug de-addiction centers to assess their recovery status. Recovered individuals will be identified for skill-building programs to support their reintegration into society and reduce relapse risks.

The Transport Department was directed to conduct regular checks on drivers using breath analyzers and urine drug testing kits. These checks aim to prevent substance-impaired driving and ensure safety on the roads.

DC instructed the police and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to conduct inspections across the district to identify and shut down any illegal drug de-addiction centers, ensuring all such facilities meet the required legal and medical standards.

The meeting was attended by SSP Rajouri, Randeep Kumar; ADC Rajouri, Rajiv Khajuria; District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Abdul Raheem; CEO Bishamber Dass; and other district and sectoral officers who each shared updates and collaborative plans to strengthen enforcement measures across their departments.

In closing, DC Abhishek Sharma reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug abuse and trafficking, underscoring that a comprehensive, multi-agency approach is essential to effectively combat the issue. He called on all departments to maintain coordination and intensify actions under the NCORD framework to achieve a drug-free Rajouri.
