Feeble WD to affect J&K, light snow likely at isolated higher reaches

Srinagar, Jan 14 : A feeble Western Disturbance (WD) is affecting Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday and under its influence light snowfall is expected at isolated higher reaches in the next 48 hours.

According to the news agency Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is a possibility of light snow at isolated higher reaches during the early morning of the 16th.

He added that from January 17 to 19, the weather would remain generally cloudy, adding that overall, nothing significant is expected till January 19.

On January 20 & 21, generally cloudy weather is expected with possibility of light snow at isolated to scattered places, he said.

Moreover, the minimum temperatures have once again settled below normal in Kashmir with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recording a low of minus 4.2 degree Celsius.

Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 5.6 degree Celsius while Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination recorded a minimum temperature of minus 7.8 degree Celsius.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.7 degree Celsius while Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4 degree Celsius. Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, has recorded a low of minus 6.2 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, the MeT has issued an advisory, advising the tourists, travelers and transporters to follow administration and traffic advisory.
