DODA, JANUARY 16: To mark Road Safety Month, a Road Safety Awareness Program was organized at Bhaderwah trial grounds for new driving license applicants. The event, guided by Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan and Deputy Commissioner Doda Harvinder Singh, was supervised by ARTO Rajesh Gupta. The goal of the program was to teach new drivers safe driving skills, especially on roads traversing difficult terrains like Doda District.

During the event, instructors demonstrated safe driving techniques for navigating steep roads and sharp turns. Participants also learned how to control vehicles on slippery roads, such as in rainy or icy conditions. The importance of following road safety rules, like obeying speed limits and wearing seat belts and helmets, was emphasized. The program also focused on regular vehicle maintenance, including checking brakes, tires, and lights, to ensure safety. Drivers were also taught how to handle emergencies, accidents, and breakdowns.

The event also stressed avoiding distractions, such as using mobile phones while driving, and the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Participants were encouraged to respect pedestrians, follow lane discipline, and park correctly to ensure smoother traffic flow.

As part of Road Safety Month celebrations, additional activities, including road safety rallies, the distribution of safety brochures, mock drills, and the deployment of Mobile Road Safety Vans, are planned across the district. These activities aim to encourage responsible driving and reduce accidents.

ARTO Doda Rajesh Gupta emphasized that such programs are crucial for raising awareness about road safety. By giving new drivers the skills and knowledge to drive safely, the initiative aims to protect all road users in Doda.
