International Women’s Day: GCW Nawa Kadal organizes week-long commemoratory programme

SRINAGAR, MARCH 10: To celebrate International Women’s Day, Government College for Women NawaKadal has organized a week-long program within the college premises, here.

The Women’s Development Cell of the college organized an event on the theme ‘Accelerate Action for Gender Equality’ on 8th March in the College auditorium to impart awareness to the participants on gender equality and discuss ways and means to address gender issues in our spheres of activity.

Principal of the college, Dr. Huda Galzai delivered the special address, emphasising the importance of gender equality, gender issues and contributions of women in shaping the society and the world at large. She also stressed on removing gender biases, stereotypes and fostering an equitable society.

On this occasion, Sleet Shah, Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Srinagar, invited as the guest of honour, delivered an inspiring address on new criminal laws, sharing examples and experiences from her own career, which was well received by the audience.

Earlier, the programme commenced with a warm welcome by the WDC Coordinator Prof. Pinu Andrabi. She gave a brief background of the International Women’s Day and stressed the need for ensuring gender equality.

Dr. Riffat Aman, Head, Department of Education discussed the history of gender sensitive movements, the evolution of thought and literature in this field and the contemporary status and challenges faced by females and other genders in our society.

Dr. Asmat Ara, Head, Department of Music shared insights on Women empowerment, gender sensitivity and workplace inclusivity in religious perspective.

Students also shared the stage and expressed their beliefs and thoughts on Gender equality. They shared personal experiences and challenges faced by them in their lives.

The event concluded with a pledge of gender equality where students, faculty members and guests took an oath to respect genders, work against discrimination and advocate equality in all spheres of life.
