Awareness program on POSH Act held at GDC Paloura

JAMMU, APRIL 08: The Internal Complaints Committee and Women Development Cell of Government Degree College Paloura, under the aegis of IQAC, on Tuesday organised an awareness-cum-Interaction Programme on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace” (POSH) Act, 2013.

The programme had three sessions. In the first session, key speaker Meenu Padha (practicing lawyer, High Court, J&K and Ladakh) addressed students and staff and apprised them about the POSH Act in detail. She discussed exhaustively about the terms related to sexual harassment, the composition of committee, the procedure to file complaint, the penalties etc.

The event was ensued by an interaction session where students actively participated in the discussion and raised their doubts and apprehensions related to the act which were addressed by the speaker and the committee members.

The Principal of the College Dr. Kulvinder Kour cautioned the students regarding the magnitude of the consequences of the penalties of this Act. She advised the students to follow the right path and focus on their career. Prof Geetanjali Multani, Convener, ICC introduced the students with the Committee members and reiterated the commitment of the committee towards safeguarding the rights of women at workplace.

In the last session, the students of VI semester shared their views on the POSH Act through engaging presentations. Roshan, Khushi, Anjali and Poonam from NEP & CBCS were the participants. Through the organisation of such programme the college communicated its zero tolerance policy against sexual harassment.

Tanmay Mahajan of IV th Semester hosted the program. Senior faculty members, the members of ICC and Women Development Cell were present in the event. The program concluded with formal vote of thanks.
