KISHTWAR, JUNE 04: An awareness event was organized today at the BDO Office Drabshalla under the directions of District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Shavan. The campaign aimed to inform the public about the three new criminal laws.

The newly introduced laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) replacing the Indian Evidence Act — were the focus of the program.

Tehsildar Irshad Ahmed Sheikh presided over the event as the Chief Guest, while BDO Ajay Singh and Prosecuting Officer Thatri Shazia Banoo were present as Guests of Honour. The PO also acted as the resource person, delivering an informative and detailed lecture on the new legal provisions.

A large number of people from adjoining areas and Panchayats participated enthusiastically in the event. In her address, The PO emphasized that the new laws are structured to ensure speedy justice for victims, introduce stricter penalties for offenders and prioritize justice over punishment.

The Tehsildar and BDO also spoke on the occasion, urging citizens to stay informed about their legal rights and responsibilities under the new laws. They stressed that the revamped legal framework is designed to make the justice system more efficient, accessible and victim-centric.
