SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: Director, Sheep Husbandry department Kashmir, Dr. Rafiq Ahmad Shah, chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the implementation and planning of various departmental schemes for the financial year 2025–26.

The review focused on the UT Capex Budget allocations, with detailed discussions on district-wise releases, liabilities, and targets under the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme (ISDS). Non-construction, construction and NABARD-funded works were also examined to ensure effective execution and impact.

Discussions included updates on the National Livestock Mission, with specific focus on animal insurance, honorarium to field veterinarians, and planned extension activities.

The meeting also reviewed proposals related to the Sheep Husbandry Department Kashmir under innovation and development initiatives.

Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) 2025–26, the department emphasized efforts toward self-sustenance in mutton and wool production.

Further, the meeting discussed operationalization of Common Facility Centers (CFCs) and wool markets, strengthening monitoring of Breeding Base Farms (BBFs), commercial farms and CFCs, adoption of the JD vaccine in disease prevention and implementation of administrative reforms including the ‘Behak Order.’

The meeting concluded with constructive suggestions for the upcoming mid-term review of the HADP, reiterating the department’s commitment to innovation, accountability, and sustainable livestock development.
