JAMMU, FEBRUARY 04: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr. Rakesh Minhas today chaired a Block Diwas program at Upper Chakroi in Suchetgarh Block, where he listened to public grievances and directed stakeholder departments to ensure quality redressal of the same.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner assured that irrigation water would be ensured up to the tail end. “A comprehensive plan will be formulated to fix breaches and maintain adequate flow in all canals” he said.

He also urged residents to avoid dumping waste into water bodies, while seeking public participation in sustainable development.

Taking note of complaints regarding irregularities in the supply of fertilisers and pesticides, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Agriculture Officer and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer to take strict action and ensure immediate relief to farmers.

Responding to the public demands, the Deputy Commissioner assured to incorporate the projected developmental demands in the upcoming plans. “The public transport issues will also be examined to explore feasible solutions” he stressed.

Several public grievances raised during the programme were resolved on the spot. Regarding issuance of new ration-cards, he assured that the demand would be conceded after completion of the Census. He appealed to residents to extend cooperation to census officials.

Emphasising smooth farming operations in border areas, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that farmers are entitled to cultivate their farmland up to the Zero Line. He directed the Border Security Force, Sub-Divisional Administration and the Agriculture Department to facilitate farmers in carrying out farming operations up-to the Zero-Line.

The Deputy Commissioner also took note of crop damage to agricultural land around the Gharana Wetland. He assured that the matter would be examined in detail to explore the possibility of compensation. He further assured early disposal of pending land compensation cases.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Gharana Wetland to assess the scope for its development and review public issues on the ground.

Additional District Development Commissioner, Sher Singh; SDM, Anuradha Thakur; Assistant Commissioner Development, Tehsildar, Block Development Officer and other district officers were present at the programme.
