2 day training programme on Soil Health Management begins at Panthal

REASI, NOVEMBER 06: A two-day training programme on Soil Health Management was organized at Panthal under the aegis of Directorate of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare, Jammu.

The training forms part of the ‘Capacity Building’ component of HADP Project J&K Soil and Land Resources Information Systems for Planning and Soil Health Management (JKSLRI) for the fiscal year 2024-25.

District Development Council (DDC) member Panthal Rajinder Mengi inaugurated the two-day training at the SIRAH Community Hall, Panthal, involving 50 farmers and rural youth of District Reasi.

In his inaugural address, the DDC encouraged farmers to adopt the latest farming techniques and take full advantage of projects under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). He highlighted the importance of integrated farming and encouraged farmers to take up dairy farming, mushroom cultivation, and apiculture alongside traditional crop production. The DDC expressed his gratitude to the Department of Agriculture for organizing this valuable programme for the farming community.

Earlier, Divisional Soil Survey Officer, Jammu Suresh Kumar Khajuria extended a warm welcome to DDC Panthal, the participant farmers, and the resource persons.

The training featured presentations by distinguished experts, including a lecture on ‘Sustainable Soil Health Management, by Dr. Sanjay Koushal, Scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (SKUAST-J), Reasi and a presentation on the benefits of Soil Health Card Scheme by Dr. Neeraj Rajwal, Assistant Soil Chemist.’

The programme was coordinated by Programme Officer from the Office of the Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), Jammu, Rajeev Katoch. The initiative aimed to empower the farmers of Reasi with essential knowledge on soil health, contributing to sustainable agricultural development in the region.
