Srinagar, Apr 18 : The two-day wet spell forecasted by the weatherman here began on Thursday after fresh rainfall lashed the plains of Kashmir, prompting the district administration to issue a fresh advisory, asking people not to venture around the water bodies.

According to the news agency, several areas of Kashmir including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, received fresh rainfall today.

The reports of snowfall were also received from Sinthan Top, Zojila, Razdan Top, Sadhna Top and Tulail in Gurez Valley today.

In wake of the prevailing weather conditions, the mercury has plummeted across Kashmir today.

Compared to 22.5 degree Celsius yesterday, Srinagar has recorded a maximum temperature of 17.7 degree Celsius today, an official in the Meteorological department said, adding that Qazigund also recorded a maximum temperature of 15.5 degree Celsius compared to 22.5 degree Celsius yesterday.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 12.5 degree Celsius compared to 19.4 degree Celsius yesterday while 14.5 degree Celsius was recorded in Kupwara compared to yesterday’s 22.7 degree Celsius.

However, Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has predicted more light to moderate rains till tomorrow evening.

Generally cloudy with light to moderate rain at most places and light snow over higher reaches with thunder, lightning is expected till tomorrow late evening or night, he said.

He stated that there is a possibility of light rains at scattered places on April 20 while the weather is expected to remain generally dry, adding that the possibility of afternoon thundershower activity at isolated places can’t be ruled out.

From April 26-27, the weather would remain generally cloudy while light rain with thunder is expected at many places, he said.

Moreover, the MeT department has issued an advisory, asking the farmers to resume farm operations after April 21st.

Temporary disruption of surface transportation over a few higher reaches during 19th April is also expected, it reads, adding that temporary water logging in few low lying areas may be witnessed as well.

General public are advised not to venture out near streams, Nallahs and other water bodies during the next 2-3 days, the advisory reads, adding that there is a possibility of landslides, mudslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places during 18th and 19th April.

In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the district administration Srinagar has issued an advisory, asking people not to venture around water bodies.

According to the details available with KNO, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in an advisory said that in view of weather forecast, the people living on the left and right side of river Jhelum, its tributaries and Nallahs are advised to refrain from venturing in and around these water bodies and limit their activities till the improvement of weather conditions.

The tourists, Shikarawalas and others too have been asked to take precautions before crossing the Dal Lake.
