JAMMU, MARCH 30: A group of 22 youth has completed six-month training in processing and value addition of horticulture products organized by the Canning Office Jammu. The trainees of the batch were awarded Certificates at a Valedictory function held today.

Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Syed was the Chief Guest. The training programme was conducted under the supervision of Chief Canning Instructor Sanjeev Kumar Karlupia and MCC Shreshtha Gaur along with the staff of the Canning Office Jammu.

A booklet on value-added products was also released by the Chief Guest. The Director appreciated the department for equipping youth with practical skills in processing and value addition, which can help them in income generation through self-employment. He also highlighted various schemes of the Horticulture Department aimed at promoting processing and value addition, including support for establishment of small-scale processing units, training programme under ATMA and financial assistance for adoption of modern technologies in post-harvest management, besides other centrally sponsored schemes. He emphasized that such initiatives help in reducing post-harvest losses and increasing farmers’ income.
