4,000 vacant posts in Jammu health department affects healthcare services

Srinagar, Dec 22: About 4,000 gazetted and non-gazetted posts are lying vacant in the Health department in Jammu division, affecting healthcare facilities.

In response to an application filed under the Right to Information Act by social activist MM Shuja, the authorities at Directorate of Health Services Jammu have revealed that there are 987 gazetted posts and 2,943 non-gazetted posts vacant in Jammu division.

As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the vacancy of gazetted posts include 103 in Jammu district followed by 138 in Kuthua, 37 in Samba, 120 in Udhampur, 74 in Ramban, 113 in Doda, 73 in Kishtwar, 127 in Poonch, 113 in Rajouri, 84 in Reasi and five gazetted posts working on administrative posts .

It said that there are 621 non-gazetted posts vacant in Jammu district followed by 351 in Kathua, 183 in Samba, 280 in Udhampur, 172 in Ramban, 254 in Doda, 179 in Kishtwar, 293 in Poonch, 390 in Rajouri and 220 in Reasi.

There are 2171 sanctioned gazetted posts in Jammu division and among them 1,184 are in position while 987 are vacant while out of 9,311 sanctioned non-gazetted posts, 6,368 are in position and 2,943 are lying vacant.

The understaffing of the vital department has had an impact on the delivery of essential healthcare services—(KNO)
