53 vehicles seized, 19 arrested in 3 months for illegal extraction of minerals in Gbl: Police

Srinagar, May 21 : Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Geology and Mining department have seized 53 vehicles and arrested 19 persons for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in district Ganderbal, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

“On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Sandeep Gupta-IPS, Special Police teams of district Ganderbal were directed to check the menace of illegal mining across the district. In the course of action, 19 persons were arrested & 18 vehicles (14 Tippers, 04 Tractors) were seized during the last 03 months,” a police spokesman said.

These vehicles were loaded with illegally extracted Bajri/Sand & Boulders from Nallah Sindh Ganderbal. Moreover, during the joint course of action in the previous 03 months, Police alongwith Geology and Mining Department raided at different locations in the district and seized 35 vehicles (26 Tippers, 08 Tractors & 01 Load Carrier) and recovered fine from them, the statement added.

Regarding the incidents, police said that the cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations.

Meanwhile, J&K Police warned the persons involved in the illegal practice of mining to mend their way and refrain from this illegal practice, else strict action under law will be taken.
