KISHTWAR, SEPTEMBER 13: In compliance with the directions of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kishtwar organized the 3rd National Lok Adalat today across the district.
The Lok Adalat was held to facilitate the amicable settlement of disputes, promote access to justice and reduce the pendency of cases through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
A total of 03 benches were constituted for the smooth conduct of the Lok Adalat, which took up a wide range of cases including Criminal Compoundable cases, Matrimonial disputes, Maintenance matters, Civil suits, Recovery cases, Labour disputes, MACT (Motor Accident Claims Tribunal) cases, Pre-Litigation matters, and other civil and criminal cases.
Three benches were constituted for the smooth conduct of the Lok Adalat. The first bench comprised Munish Kumar Manhas, Chief Judicial Magistrate (Sub-Judge), Kishtwar and Naveed Khurshid, Chief LADC, Kishtwar. The second bench consisted of Slahuddin Ahmed, Secretary, DLSA Kishtwar and Farhat Nabi, Assistant LADC, Kishtwar. The third bench included Karan Bijyal, Munsiff/JMIC, Kishtwar and Deepika Sharma, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Kishtwar.
During the Lok Adalat, a total of 259 cases were taken up for hearing, out of which 195 cases were settled through mutual consent of the parties.
Significantly, a total settlement amount of ₹1,26,06,563 was awarded to claimants in MACT cases, Recovery Suits, and other financial disputes, marking a substantial relief to the beneficiaries and contributing to the speedy resolution of long-pending matters.
The District Legal Services Authority Kishtwar expressed gratitude to all the judicial officers, legal aid counsels, staff members, and litigants who participated and contributed to the success of the 3rd National Lok Adalat. The initiative reaffirms the commitment of the legal services institutions to provide affordable and expeditious justice to all sections of society.
