BANDIPORA, SEPTEMBER 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Monday presided over a painting competition on the theme ‘Nasha Chhodo, Desh Jodo’ held at Chittarnar as part of the ongoing Sewa Parv 2025 celebrations.

The painting competition was organised by the district administration and Police Bandipora to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage students to use art as a medium for social change.
Over 150 students from schools and colleges across the district participated with enthusiasm, conveying powerful messages of unity, resilience, and a drug-free future through their paintings.

The programme also featured a skit by students of Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora on responsible parenting, cultural performances by students, and a play by artists from the Cultural Unit Srinagar of DIPR, all underlining the collective role of parents and society in tackling the menace of drugs.

Speaking on the occasion, DC appreciated the creativity of the participants and emphasized that eradicating drug abuse requires collective responsibility. She underlined the importance of responsible parenting and urged parents to maintain open, two-way communication with their children, encouraging them to share their daily experiences.

She also advised students to avoid excessive use of mobile phones, noting that healthy parent–child interaction can be an effective tool in addressing challenges faced by youth.

A pledge ceremony under the theme ‘Nasha Chhodo, Desh Jodo’ was also held, reaffirming the district’s commitment to a drug-free society. Winners of the competition were felicitated with prizes, while certificates were awarded to top performers at both school and college levels. All participants were commended for their meaningful contributions.

Earlier in the day, DC attended the Swachhta Hi Seva programme organized by the Municipal Council Bandipora in collaboration with Lead Bank at Nishat Park. Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the importance of scientific waste management, segregation at source, and reducing plastic use by adopting eco-friendly alternatives.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, volunteers, and local residents, reflecting the true spirit of Swachhta Hi Seva and Gandhiji’s vision of a clean and sustainable India.
