RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 27: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan, today presided over a grand event at Government Degree College (GDC) Ramban organised as part of the ongoing Sewa Parv and Gandhi Jayanti–2025 celebrations.
The programme featured a series of inter-college competitions, including a declamation contest on the theme “Gandhian Life & Philosophy”, an on-spot painting competition and a quiz competition.
Students from all five degree colleges of the District including GDC Ramban, GDC Banihal, GDC Ukhral, GDC Gool and GDC Batote enthusiastically participated in the event, showcasing their creativity, knowledge and understanding of Gandhian values.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the timeless relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, tolerance and perseverance in contemporary society. He urged the students to imbibe these values in their daily lives and motivated them to work hard to achieve their goals and contribute positively to nation building. Later, he distributed medals and certificates among the winners of various competitions.
Speaking on the spirit of Sewa Parv, the Deputy Commissioner underlined that the fortnight-long celebration across the district aims to promote community service, social awareness and sustainable development through diverse activities and youth participation.
Earlier, Principal GDC Ramban, Prof. Satish Kumar, welcomed the DC Ramban as Chief Guest and briefed him about the series of activities organised by the College under Sewa Parv and Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.
In the declamation contest, Rashida Beig (GDC Ramban), Neha Devi (GDC Batote) and Nishika Bhutyal (GDC Ramban) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. In painting, Hameera Arshad (GDC Gool), Junaid Khatib Ganaie (GDC Ramban) and Mubasher Ahmed (GDC Gool) bagged the top three spots. In the quiz competition, teams from GDC Ramban, GDC Batote and GDC Gool stood first, second and third respectively.
The quiz was coordinated by Prof. Ram Parkash and Dr. Anuj Gupta. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Jawaid Sarver, while the programme was moderated by Dr. Vishal Baloria, HoD History.
