UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER 4: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai today flagged off a group of 30 farmers on an exposure visit to Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur under the centrally sponsored scheme ATMA.

The visit has been organized under the Promotion of Floriculture component of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme.

The main objective of the visit is to acquaint the farmers with the latest innovations and technological interventions being implemented in the field of agriculture.

While interacting with the farmers, the DC emphasized the importance of such initiatives in empowering the farming community and enhancing agricultural productivity across the district. She also lauded the efforts of the Agriculture Department for organizing exposure visits and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving the knowledge base of farmers.

During the visit, the farmers would observe demonstration farms, field experiments, plant varieties and crop trials being conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in cereals, vegetables and other crops. They would also have the opportunity to interact with university scientists and extension personnel to gain personal knowledge about organic farming, eco-friendly pest management, water-efficient technologies and climate-resilient cropping systems.

The exposure visit will enable participants to learn from the best practices adopted in hill and mountain agriculture, as the university is actively engaged in research and development of technologies suited to such regions.

Among others, Chief Agriculture Officer Harbans Singh, District Agriculture Officer Extension, Sudhir Manhas and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Ramnagar Ashwani Abrol were also present.
