SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 17: Social Welfare Department Srinagar successfully organized a theme-based Nukkad Natak (street play) at prominent public locations including Parimpora Bus Stand and Batmaloo, aiming to generate awareness about welfare schemes and support systems available for senior citizens.

The creative street performance effectively highlighted various social and financial security schemes, improved access to healthcare facilities, availability of shelter services, and initiatives promoting active and dignified ageing.

Through powerful storytelling, engaging dialogues, and impactful performances, the artists sensitized the public about the rights, entitlements, and well-being of elderly citizens. The play conveyed a strong message about ensuring dignity, protection, and an enhanced quality of life for senior members of society.

The performance also educated the audience about government-supported facilities such as old age homes, mobile medicare units, distribution of assistive devices for eligible elderly persons, pension schemes, and the National Elder Helpline.

The act successfully drew the attention of commuters, shopkeepers, and local residents, encouraging them to actively spread awareness about welfare initiatives meant for senior citizens.

Officials from the department emphasized the importance of community participation in safeguarding the interests of the elderly and promoting a culture of respect, care, and social inclusion.

The initiative reflects the Department’s continued commitment to strengthening outreach efforts and ensuring that senior citizens are aware of and able to access the benefits designed for their welfare.

The event witnessed positive public engagement and appreciation, reinforcing the need for continued awareness campaigns to build a more inclusive and compassionate society for the elderly.
