JAMMU, FEBRUARY 21: Director Agriculture Jammu, Anil Gupta today chaired a comprehensive review meeting with all sectoral heads of the Directorate at the Conference Hall, Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo.

The meeting aimed to gather insights into departmental functioning, review ongoing activities and strategize for the effective implementation of agricultural initiatives across Jammu Division.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs); Ashwani Sharma, Joint Director Agriculture (Extension); Sanjay Anand, Joint Director Agriculture (Farms/SLUB); Aman Jyoti Sharma along with sectoral heads and staff of the Directorate of Agriculture Jammu.

Addressing the officers, the Director stressed the importance of a proactive, transparent and accountable approach to departmental functioning. He emphasized timely implementation of schemes and close inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective service delivery to farmers.

Reviewing sector-wise performance, he called for stronger field-level monitoring, real-time reporting mechanisms and optimal resource utilization under CSS, CAPEX, JKCIP, HADP and the NABARD funded Projects. He urged intensified outreach through regular field visits, awareness camps and prompt grievance redressal.

Highlighting the need to move beyond traditional farming practices, the Director underscored the importance of innovation and modern agriculture. He directed the Mushroom Development Officer to promote not only button and oyster mushrooms but also high-value varieties such as shiitake and to organize special awareness and training programmes for farmers.

The Director reviewed the ongoing works related to the establishment of the Centre of Excellence under the Vegetable Improvement Scheme (VIS) and directed that quality seedlings and hybrid varieties be made available to farmers in a timely and efficient manner. He also instructed all sectoral heads to submit data pertaining to the last three years within one week to facilitate comprehensive review, assessment and future planning.

In the apiculture sector, he emphasized enhancing honey production alongside strengthening value-added by-products. He called for strengthening the Demonstration-cum-Training Centres (DCTCs) and modernizing departmental infrastructure.

Stressing the importance of scientific support systems, the Director highlighted the need for upgrading laboratory equipment and increasing awareness regarding Soil Health Cards to promote balanced fertilization practices.
