SHOPIAN, MARCH 07: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, in collaboration with Education Department Shopian, today organized a grand programme to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Auditorium of Government Degree College (GDC) Gagren, Shopian.
The event was held to promote legal awareness among women and to underscore the themes of empowerment and gender equality.The programme brought together a large number of female teachers from across the district, alongside panel lawyers and Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs), for an engaging and informative session.
Secretary DLSA Shopian, Mudasar Farooq, emphasized that women’s empowerment cannot be fully achieved without knowledge of one’s legal rights. He urged the participating teachers to integrate these lessons into their daily lives and classrooms.
Chief LADC Shopian, Rafie Ahmad Ganie, was present on the occasion and lauded the collaborative effort between the legal and education departments. He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to ensuring that every woman in the district has access to justice.
In her address, Shabnum Akhter, Lecturer, Govt. HSS Sedow, spoke on the societal shift towards gender equality and the role of education in empowering women.
The legal segment of the programme featured expert talks from a distinguished panel of lawyers from the DLSA panel, who spoke on legal safeguards for women, constitutional rights, laws related to workplace safety and access to free legal aid was also discussed.
The speakers collectively stressed the importance of legal literacy as a tool for empowerment and encouraged the attendees to act as ambassadors of legal awareness within their communities.
Later, the Secretary presented appreciation certificates to all the distinguished speakers for their valuable contributions to the programme.
