KUPWARA, MARCH 14: An intensified market checking drive was conducted today in various areas of Handwara including Maratgam, Chogal and adjoining localities.
The inspection was carried out by the Tehsildar Handwara in coordination with officials of the Food Safety Department and the Station House Officer Handwara, on the Directions of Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara.
During the drive, several establishments including bakeries, vegetable shops and other retail outlets were thoroughly inspected to ensure compliance with food safety standards and market regulations.
The team examined the quality of food items, hygiene conditions and the validity of necessary licenses and documentation.
The Food Safety Department, after identifying certain violations, imposed on-spot fines amounting to Rs 6,000 on erring shopkeepers. The officials also sensitized the shopkeepers about maintaining proper hygiene, displaying rate lists and adhering to food safety norms to safeguard public health.
The market checking drive was conducted as part of the ongoing efforts of the administration to ensure the availability of safe and quality food items to the public and to discourage unfair market practices.
The authorities have warned that such inspections will continue in the future and strict action will be taken against those found violating the rules.
