PULWAMA, MARCH 28: Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom today presided over a one-day awareness-cum-distribution camp at Circuit House Pulwama.

The camp was organised by the Labour Department with the aim to raise awareness about various JKBOCW welfare schemes, sensitise workers on the New Labour Codes, and promote enrolment under various pension and social security schemes including PM-SYM, PMJDY, PMJJBY, PMSBY and APY.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner disbursed financial assistance among beneficiaries under the JKBOCW Welfare Schemes through DBT mode, including support for lower and higher education, meritorious students, and marriage assistance.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the instrumental and foundational role of labourers in nation-building and economic development. He lauded their hard work, resilience and dedication, stating that labourers are the backbone of society who, despite challenges, strive to provide better opportunities and education for their children, thereby contributing to the progress of future generations. He reiterated that the district administration remains committed to their welfare and is always available to extend necessary support and assistance.

While addressing the gathering, Dr. Qayoom emphasized the importance of pension and social security schemes in ensuring financial stability and dignity for workers in the long run. He urged all eligible workers to proactively enrol under these schemes and directed the Assistant Labor Commissioner to devise a comprehensive action plan for organizing regular awareness and registration camps to achieve saturation. He further instructed for wide dissemination of IEC material including pamphlets, posters and booklets to ensure maximum outreach and coverage.

Furthermore, the Assistant Labor Commissioner and Labour Officer also elaborated on various JKBOCW welfare schemes, provisions of the New Labour Codes, and benefits of different pension and social security initiatives, encouraging workers to take full advantage of these schemes.

On the occasion, several beneficiaries shared their experiences and expressed gratitude to the administration for extending timely financial assistance. They highlighted that such support has significantly eased their financial burden, enabled them to support their children’s education, and helped them meet important social obligations, while appreciating the administration’s efforts in reaching out to the labour community.
