GANDERBAL, MAY 05: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore today chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of ongoing Census preparations in the district, with a focus on ensuring adherence to timelines and strengthening field-level readiness.

At the outset, the meeting was informed that the foundational work, including fixation of village boundaries and preparation of digital village maps has largely been completed. The maps have been reviewed at the tehsil level, necessary corrections incorporated, and are expected to be updated on the central portal shortly.

The meeting was apprised that registration of all field functionaries, including supervisors, enumerators and field trainers, has been completed. Training of field trainers has already been conducted, and preparations are underway to roll out enumerator and supervisor training in a phased manner starting mid-May. The DC stressed the need for well-organised training sessions with adequate infrastructure to ensure quality outcomes.

Reviewing the status of demarcation, the meeting noted that the process of creating House Listing Blocks (HLBs) and their internal mapping is underway across tehsils, with significant progress already achieved in several areas.

The DC directed officers to expedite the process to meet the targeted deadline.
The meeting was further informed that required manpower has been mobilised, including additional staff from the Education Department to address gaps in certain areas. Identification of reserve staff has also been completed to ensure smooth conduct of operations.

It was highlighted that the house listing exercise will commence from June 1, during which enumerators will conduct door-to-door surveys. The actual population enumeration is scheduled for the next phase, with special arrangements planned for snow-bound areas of district where enumeration will be conducted earlier due to accessibility constraints.

The DC also reviewed preparations for self-enumeration, which is set to begin from May 17 in the district. He directed officers to undertake focused awareness campaigns and integrate these efforts with ongoing outreach programmes to maximise public participation.

Stressing the importance of coordinated efforts, the DC urged all departments and field officials to work in close synergy to ensure smooth and timely completion of all Census-related activities in the district.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, Tehsildars and other officers and officials.
