POONCH, MAY 16: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma today chaired a meeting of the Solid and Liquid Waste Management Monitoring Task Force to review the implementation and monitoring of waste management rules in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the measures being undertaken by enforcement departments for proper waste management and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the urban and rural areas of the district.

Emphasizing the need for scientific and systematic waste disposal, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to identify bulk waste-generating areas and ensure proper disposal and management of solid and liquid waste at such locations. He further instructed the authorities to impose fines on bulk waste generators found violating the prescribed waste management norms and regulations.

Stressing the importance of public participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, the Deputy Commissioner called for intensified awareness campaigns across the district. He directed the concerned departments to organise door-to-door awareness campaigns regarding source segregation of waste and educate the public about proper disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to ensure effective waste management at the household level.

The Deputy Commissioner also urged all departments to work in close coordination to ensure effective implementation of waste management rules and promote environmental sustainability in the district.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, General Manager DIC and officers of various departments associated with sanitation, rural development, municipal committees and environmental management.
