ANANTNAG, MAY 19: In view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, the Food Safety Department Anantnag today conducted intensified inspections of food establishments across various markets of the district to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for consumers.

The inspection drive particularly focused on establishments dealing with bakery products, milk and milk products, meat and meat products, as well as fruits and vegetables. The initiative was launched with the objective of safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance with food safety standards during the festive season.

During the inspections, bakery establishments were thoroughly checked and directed to strictly adhere to Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which prescribes hygiene and sanitary guidelines for food business operators. Samples of various food items were also procured during the drive for comprehensive analysis to assess their quality and safety standards.

Meanwhile, 32 cases of ice cream with labelling violations were seized from M/S S.S. Enterprises, Laizbal K.P. Road, Anantnag during the inspection process.

The authorities urged food business operators to comply with food safety regulations in letter and spirit to ensure consumer safety. The general public has also been advised to carefully check food package labels before purchasing products for consumption.
