SHOPIAN, JUNE 24: A condolence meeting was held today at the District Court Complex, Shopian, under the chairmanship of Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhury, Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman, District Legal Services Authority) Shopian, to express grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Smt. Shakti Devi, mother of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Smt. Shakti Devi passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, values, and dedication that touched the lives of those around her.
The condolence meeting was attended by judicial officers, Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), Panel Lawyers, advocates, para legal volunteers (PLVs), and court staff, who gathered to convey their heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
Speaking on the occasion, Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhury paid rich tributes to the departed soul and observed that the loss of a mother is an irreplaceable loss that leaves a lasting void in one’s life.
On behalf of the District Judiciary and the entire legal fraternity of Shopian, he extended deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Justice Sanjeev Kumar and his family.
As a mark of respect, the participants observed a two-minute silence and offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
The legal fraternity of Shopian expressed its unwavering solidarity with the Acting Chief Justice and his family and shared in their grief during this moment of bereavement.
