SHOPIAN, AUGUST 14: Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day today to commemorate the countless lives affected and lost during the Partition of India in 1947 and to remember the immense suffering, displacement and hardships endured by millions of people.
The day was officially designated by the Government of India in 2021 with the objective of remembering the victims and acknowledging the devastating human consequences of Partition.
As part of the programme, a two-minute silence was observed by the participants in remembrance of those who lost their lives and those who suffered displacement, separation and immense hardships during Partition.
A documentary depicting the tragic incidents and human suffering associated with Partition was also screened, providing students with a deeper understanding of one of the most painful chapters in the history of the subcontinent.
A patriotic skit was presented by the NCC volunteers of GDC Shopian, highlighting the values of patriotism, unity, sacrifice and national integration.
A moving Partition story was also narrated by Palik Rani, a student of NIPS, Zainapora, who presented an account of the incidents and hardships associated with Partition. The narration provided an emotional perspective on the experiences of people who witnessed the upheaval and loss during that period.
The programme was attended by Principal GDC Shopian, Prof. Tariq Hussain Mir, District Information Officer Shopian, Sajad Ahmad Shah, faculty members of GDC Shopian, teachers and students from various schools.
