Sanction 8 years ago, 200 Govt High Schools hang between construction of buildings, sanctioned posts

Srinagar: In Jammu and Kashmir, at least 200 government high schools that were sanctioned nearly 8 years back are hanging in between the construction of buildings and sanctioned posts.

Top officials of the School Education Department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “There were some government schools that were upgraded to higher secondary schools post 2014 floods. However, no funds were utilized for them.”

The official further said, “Besides, nearly 200 government high schools were also sanctioned. In these schools, no buildings were constructed and no posts were prepared for them.”

A few years back, the School Education Department had proposed to introduce some new subjects at senior secondary levels like rural development, public administration, mass communication and fisheries. “None of these subjects were introduced at any level.”

“The department is trying hard to get everything streamlined, but it will take some time. There were some more important issues that the department is focusing on, but very soon, everything will be put as per the decisions made in the past.”—(KNO)
