PULWAMA, SEPTEMBER 22: Government Degree College (GDC) Pulwama organised an Awareness Programme-cum-Quiz Competition on Census 2027 in Digital Mode on the theme “Role of Census Data in Nation Building and Policy Framework” at the Auditorium Hall of the college.
The programme was organised under the guidance and support of the District Administration Pulwama and the Census authorities with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of Census data in national planning, policy formulation and implementation of welfare schemes.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members from five degree colleges of the district, including GDC Pulwama, GDC Rajpora, GDC Tral, GDC Awantipora and Government Degree College for Women Pulwama.
Addressing the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), who is also the District Census Officer, Pulwama, Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Ashraf, elaborated on the various aspects of Census 2027, with particular emphasis on its digital mode and the importance of population enumeration.
He explained that the Census provides essential information about the population and its demographic characteristics, which serves as a crucial basis for national and regional planning.
The ADC highlighted how accurate and comprehensive Census data assists in assessing requirements related to education, healthcare, housing, employment, infrastructure and social welfare, thereby supporting evidence-based policy formulation and the effective implementation of government schemes.
Addressing the students, he described them as important ambassadors of awareness who can carry the message of Census literacy to their families and communities. He encouraged the students to remain informed, share authentic information and contribute positively to the successful conduct of Census 2027.
In his address, Principal, GDC Pulwama, Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, highlighted the significance of the Census as a vital national exercise for understanding the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the population.
He emphasised that reliable population data forms the foundation of effective development planning and helps governments formulate policies and welfare programmes in accordance with the needs of the people.
District Census Coordinator, Pulwama, Ajay Singh also addressed the gathering and provided valuable insights into the administrative and field-level responsibilities associated with Census operations. He explained the importance of coordination among Census officials, educational institutions and other stakeholders for the smooth and systematic conduct of the enumeration exercise. He also highlighted the need for accuracy, adherence to prescribed procedures and effective dissemination of information to ensure that the objectives of Census 2027 are achieved.
Master Trainer, Census 2027, Dr. Javaid Ahmad Reshi, spoke about the technical and operational aspects of the digital Census. He sensitised the students about the importance of accurate data collection, proper procedures and the role of technology in facilitating Census-related activities.
Following the awareness session, a quiz competition based on the theme “Census 2027 in Digital Mode and the Role of Census Data in Nation Building and Policy Frameworks” was organised.
Students from the participating colleges enthusiastically took part in the competition and demonstrated their knowledge of Census-related concepts, population enumeration and the importance of demographic data in national development.
The first prize was secured by GDC Boys Pulwama, while GDC Pampore secured the second prize and GDC Awantipora secured the third prize.
The quiz served as an interactive learning platform and helped reinforce the key messages of the awareness programme.
The event concluded with appreciation for the participating colleges, students, faculty members and officials for their active involvement and cooperation.
