JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 25: Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground today organised the “My Health, My Pride” programme under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign.
The event was held with the active participation of the NSS Unit, NCC Unit and Department of Home Science. As many as100 students, including NSS volunteers and NCC cadets, participated in the programme.
The programme was funded by the Regional Directorate of NSS, Delhi, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports-Government of India.
As part of the initiative, a General Health Check-up was conducted for students at the college pharmacy. A team from Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, comprising Dr. Mridula Singh, Dr. Ritu Chib, Dr. Neha Gupta and Dr. Nikhil Jamwal, Medical Officers, along with Bimla Sharma, Rahul Kumar and Tarun Sharma, Pharmacists, conducted health screening and provided medical guidance to the students.
The programme featured two expert sessions. Dr. Gurmeet Gujral, Clinical Dietician and Founder & Director, Global Health and Diet Institute, Jammu (ISO Certified), delivered an insightful session on “Importance of Nutrition & Good Health.” She highlighted the significance of balanced nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices and preventive healthcare in maintaining long-term well-being.
The second session on “Impact of Addiction on Good Health” was delivered by Dr. Mridula Singh, who sensitised students about the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse and encouraged them to make informed and healthy choices.
The Department of Home Science also actively participated in the programme, contributing to the health and nutrition awareness component of the initiative.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Gurpreet Kour, Dr. Atiya Syed, NSS Programme Officer and Dr. Nitu Sharma, ANO, NCC, with the active support of the NSS, NCC and Department of Home Science.
The College Principal Dr. Naveen Anand appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of organising such programmes to create greater awareness among students about preventive healthcare, nutrition and the harmful consequences of substance abuse. He emphasised that empowering young people with health awareness and responsible lifestyle choices is essential for building a healthy, responsible and drug-free society.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting health, awareness and well-being among the youth and advancing the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign.
