BUDGAM, SEPTEMBER 30: Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and MLA Charar-i-Sharief, Abdul Rahim Rather, has extended warm greetings to the people for the annual Urs celebrations of the revered 14th-century patron saint of Kashmir, Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (R.A.), which commences on October 7th.
Anticipating a massive influx of devotees from across the region to the sanctum sanctorum at Charar-i-Sharief, the Speaker has urged the administration to put in place adequate, foolproof arrangements to ensure the Urs is celebrated with full religious fervor and dedication.
The Speaker emphasized that ensuring the convenience of the thousands of visiting devotees must be the top priority for the administration. He specifically called for robust traffic management by the Traffic Department to seamlessly handle the festive rush throughout the annual event.
Highlighting the need for pristine conditions, the Speaker directed the adjoining municipal committees to launch extensive, round-the-clock sanitation and cleanliness drives. He asked for the deployment of dedicated teams for continuous maintenance, washing, and deep cleaning of the shrine premises, including the main prayer hall, ablution areas, and peripheral pathways.
“Proper sanitation, adequate lighting, and seamless crowd management should be the main priorities for the administration,” Rather maintained.
He further stressed the need for close coordination and liaison among various field agencies and key departments including Roads & Buildings (R&B), Jal Shakti Department, Power Development Department (PDD), and local municipal bodies. The Speaker stressed that this coordination is essential to streamline uninterrupted water supply, reliable power availability, and efficient healthcare services in the Charar-i-Sharief town during the Urs days.
To facilitate smooth travel for the public, the Speaker requested the deployment of additional passenger buses on major routes, including Srinagar–Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam–Charar-i-Sharief, and Pulwama–Charar-i-Sharief, alongside the setting up of first-aid medical camps en route for the convenience of the devotees.
