PULWAMA, OCTOBER 27: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, today chaired a review meeting to assess the functioning, enforcement activities and service delivery of the Legal Metrology Department in the district.

A detailed presentation was made during the meeting covering inspections, enforcement, online services, revenue generation and awareness activities.

The chair was informed that 1,250 inspections had been conducted, covering 700 traders, with 2,450 weights and measures duly verified and stamped. The department had collected Rs 13.50 lakh in verification revenue, booked 44 cases and realised Rs 3.85 lakh as compounding fee, while four cases were lodged in court.

The chair was further apprised that under online services, 715 applications were received, including 710 applications for verification of weights and measures and five applications related to packaging/importing registration. The department also organised 12 in-situ verification camps, 20 consumer awareness camps/roadshows and 17 traders’ awareness camps/workshops during 2026-27 up to October 2026.

While reviewing the progress of the department, Sidha directed the department to align its activities with its core mandate, adopt a mission-mode approach and coordinate with the Labour Department, Municipal authorities and Department of State Taxes for joint inspections and awareness activities.

He further stressed that awareness and field activities should be focused on tangible outcomes and effective implementation of the department’s mandate.

On LPG delivery practices, the DDC directed that cylinders be delivered at consumers’ homes and roadside point delivery be discontinued, with immediate corrective action wherever such practices are noticed.

The DDC called for stronger field-level enforcement, coordinated inspections and effective consumer protection measures to ensure compliance with prescribed standards and regulations.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Pulwama, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat; CPO Pulwama, Aashiq Khanday; Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Pulwama, besides other concerned officers and officials.
