Police arrests 06 gamblers in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have arrested six gamblers and seized stake money from their possession, the police spokesman said.

In a handout issued here, the police spokesman said a police party from Police Station Baramulla raided a gambling site at Cheradari Baramulla following inputs about gambling activities and apprehended six gamblers.

The police have identified the accused as Shahid-ul-Islam Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Kralhar Baramulla, Khursheed Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Ahmad Rather resident of Chandsuma, Imran Qadir Chana son of Ghulam Qadir Chana resident of Arampora Baramulla, Mohammad Imran Parray son of Late Abdul Hamid Parray resident of Khawaja Sahib Baramulla, Mehraj-ud-Din Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar resident of Khawjabagh Baramulla and Mohammad Ashraf Dar son of Mohammad Sultan Dar resident of Fatehpora Khawajabagh.

“Officers have seized stake money of Rs 30420 and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” the handout reads.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Baramulla and further investigation has been initiated, the handout reads.

“Persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, J&K police in Pattan have arrested two drug peddlers recovered contraband substance from their possession.

The spokesman said one bootlegger was arrested and illicit liquor was seized from his possession as well.

The spokesman said a Police party of PS Pattan arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Hyderbeigh Pattan.

He was identified as Jahangir Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah resident of Shia Mohalla Delina Baramulla.

“During the search, officers recovered 50 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 40 tablets of Alprasafe and 104 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon from his possession,” the handout reads.

In another action, officers from PS Tangmarg arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Tangmarg Market near Snow Bakery.

The arrested has been identified as Asrar Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani resident of Kechimatpora Kunzer.

“105 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession,” the police handout reads.

Similarly in another action, a Police party of PS Pattan intercepted a suspicious person at a checkpoint established at Hyderbeigh.

“The person was carrying a bag but on seeing the police party he tried to flee from the spot but the police party apprehended him tactfully,” the handout reads.

He has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad War son of Late Ghulam Mohammad War resident of Khaitangan Baramulla.

“Officers have recovered 12 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession,” the police spokesman said.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective jurisdictional police stations where they remain in custody.

“Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and initiated further investigation,” the handout reads.
