Hate Speech Now Beyond India’s Boundaries!

Things are going south in Canada as the hate crimes are increasing especially against the Indians who are either working there or are busy studying. For the last some time, there have been activities that have not only alarmed the Indians living there but at the same time, have also surprised the Indian authorities there as well as back home. Amid the spike in such crimes, the Canadian authorities have, so far, preferred to look the other way when it comes to taking action against those involved and safeguarding the people against whom the growing violence is directed at.
As of now, it is evident that the Canadian authorities have failed in making people, especially, Indians, feel safe and that has been the reason that the Ministry of External Affairs had to issue an advisory asking Indians—working or studying in Canada—to exercise caution and remain vigil, because these crimes have been so rampant, precisely directed at Indians; such has been the inaction of the authorities in Canada that, so far, they have not taken any steps to ensure the safety of the Indians there: and one step in this direction could have been a prompt arrest of those carrying out violent acts against the Indians, but there has been silence.

The fact remains that Canada has been known for sheltering the anti-India elements that are operating securely there. The gravity of the situation can be understood by the fact that on September 16, a separatist group held a Khalistan referendum in Brampton city of Canada, legitimizing something which is totally against the interests of India, and on top of that, the inaction of the Canadian authorities against the act which back home is nothing back an act of terror. It has not stopped even there as recently Canadian Khalistani extremists defecated at the Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto, leaving the Indians hurt, fuming, and prompting the Indian authorities to take up the matter with Canada. However, despite the gravity of the act, those responsible have not been brought to book.

The anti-India elements in Canada which are carrying out anti-Indian activities, subjecting the Indian citizens to violence driven by hate, are aimed at provoking the other side.  And it has been due to the exercise of restraint by the other side that things have not spiraled out of control so far, but what is as bright as the sun is that Canada has failed to curb the elements that are responsible for the increase in the hate crimes in the country which once used to be free from such dirt. At the same time, Canadian authorities are not able to have a grip on people who are peddling propaganda and are working hard to carry out anti-India activities. Canada is one of India’s friendly countries, it is expected to act sternly against subversive elements, book the criminals and on priority ensure the safety and wellbeing of Indians living there.
