Srinagar, Nov 07 :A vital decades-old bridge on Nallah Tongri has collapsed in Chitragam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.

Locals from the area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a vital bridge on Chitragam-Yaripora road collapsed that has led to hardships to locals as this bridge was connecting several villages with each other.

They said that there are hundreds of households who are living on one side and their orchard land is lying on the other side of the nallah and in absence of a bridge, they will get affected to a large extent.

Locals alleged that they had time and again informed officials about the condition of the bridge as its pillar were lying in air due to extraction of minerals from Nallah.

They said authorities failed to take cognizance of the issue and now people will suffer.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard so that people won’t have to suffer for long.

Meanwhile, an official said that this was decades old bridge and authorities were well aware about its condition and they had already propose new bridge there which is in tendering stage.

He said that for quick relief, the diversion will be constructed within few days so that people won’t have to suffer—(KNO)
