The original purpose of zakat was to relieve the needy and impoverished through social welfare. Indeed, Allah of what you do, is Seeing.”; Surah Al-Tawbah 9:60: “The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled [to truth], and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and [for] the stranded traveller – an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.”; Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:12: “And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah. Indeed, Allah of what you do, is Knowing.”
Zakat has a wide spectrum of advantageous benefits for society, and what it accomplishes reveals and proves the Almighty’s deity. Long-term, it helps to reduce inequality since wealthy people pay a fixed amount that benefits the poor. This process consistently narrows the wealth gap and advances social equality. Additionally, it displays the willingness and power of individuals to distribute their wealth to those in need, strengthening ties between communities. More importantly, Zakat encourages economic growth since donors give to charities and other groups that can use the money to build infrastructure, offer social services, and generate jobs, all of which can help the economy thrive. In addition to increasing wealth and purifying it, paying zakat also contributes to a better world.
