Labour Dept, GHSS Ramban observe World Day against Child Labour

RAMBAN, JUNE 12: The Office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, in partnership with the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Ramban, observed the World Day against Child Labour. The event was marked by an enthusiastic participation from the school community and officials, aiming to raise awareness about the fight against child labour.

District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Rahul Gupta; District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Amit Kumar, Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) K.K. Sharma; Principal GHSS Ramban Ranjay Kumar; Senior Lecturer Lovepreet Singh; Career Counsellor from the District Employment and Counselling Centre, besides 250 students, along with staff members ALC and DECC officials were in attendance.

The SWO elaborated on the objectives and theme of the World Day against Child Labour. He discussed the critical role of the international organizations and bodies in combating child labour and outlined the support systems in place in district Ramban to rescue and rehabilitate affected children. He also detailed the legal penalties for individuals and entities found promoting child labour.

The ALC focused on key provisions of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, as amended in 2017. He explained the definition and prohibition concerning child and adolescent labour, the role of inspectors, and the functions of the District Task Force in enforcing these laws. He also emphasized the importance of compulsory primary education for children up to the age of 14.

The School Principal highlighted the root causes of child labour in India and suggested ways to mitigate this societal challenge. He highlighted the importance of education and community involvement in preventing child labour.

The Career Counseller provided an in-depth discussion on the origin and reasons behind child labour. He motivated students to pursue higher education and prepare for civil services examinations. His session aimed to inspire students to aspire to greater educational and career achievements as a means to combat child labour.
The event also featured an interactive quiz competition, where questions related to child labour prevention and general knowledge were posed to the students followed by Prize distribution to winners.

This session was followed by a tree plantation drive, promoting environmental awareness and responsibility among the students.

The winning students of the quiz competition were awarded prizes in recognition of their knowledge and participation. Senior Lecturer Mathematics Ranjay Kumar hosted the event and concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to all participants and contributors. He expressed gratitude for the successful collaboration and the commitment to organizing similar events in the future.

The Assistant Labour Commissioner assured that more such awareness programs will be conducted to continually educate and mobilize the community against the menace of child labour.
